Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams
In all weathers they turn out. The volunteers of the Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams have to be fit and able to stretcher injured walkers and climbers to safety. And all their work is funded by charitable donations.

A special Lake District beer - made to raise funds for cash-strapped mountain rescue teams across Cumbria - has sold a staggering 20,000 pints – raising £1540.Thirst Rescue is made by The Keswick Brewing Company, a small family-run brewery run by Phil and Sue Harrison, and available at various pubs countywide. The “golden 3.7 per cent a.b.v. malty beer,” was first made to raise money for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team’s 60th anniversary in 2007 but proved so popular that the brewery continued making it.Thirst Rescue was sold at various pubs throughout Cumbria, like The Dog and Gun, Keswick; and The Royal Hotel, Dockray; as well as the Royal Oak, Ambleside; The Mardale Inn, Bampton; Fish Hotel, Buttermere; The Lion at Ireby and Bower House, Eskdale.
THURSDAY 30th OCTOBER 2008 Positive outcome after nightmare weekend for Marathon event. The Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association (LDSAMRA) would like to publicly thank all the Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) competitors past, present and supporters who have donated so generously through the justgiving.com web site to demonstrate their support for the work of the voluntary mountain rescue teams in the Lake District, not only over the weekend of this year’s OMM event but also throughout the year. At the time of writing 188 competitors and supporters had donated £4,925, which, with Gift Aid added amounts to £6,250. There has been a lot of criticism related to this year’s OMM and it is good to be able to acknowledge an extremely positive outcome. Please have a look at the web site: http://www.justgiving.com/theomm08-mrtdonation to see the overwhelming level of support for our volunteer mountain rescue teams.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team
Wasdale MRT has its base in Gosforth village and works very closely with the Eskdale Outward Bounds Schools rescue volunteers. It includes Scafell and Great Gable in its area of rescues.
Seathwaite Borrowdale Current Team Leader is Julian Carradice. Their latest annual report for 2000 recorded WMRT dealing with 56 incidents (1 fatal a diver in Wastwater, 13 injured, 5 medical, 8 cragfast or stuck, 24 lost or reported overdue and five others.)
In his latest report Mr Carradice heaped criticism on the use of mobile phones by people who should be better prepared for the fells. He said: "The team get a lot of calls from people who claim to be lost or stuck. The use of mobiles to report accidents clearly assists in reducing our response times but in far too many cases people are merely using them to summon MRT assistance instead of using their map, compass and common sense to get themselves off the hill. Many times people haven't had a clue where they were. Groups even with GPS etc preferred to ask us for assistance. '' More details of the Eskdale-Wasdale area and accommodation.
